How We Make a Difference

SEF works in partnership with national and state veterinary organizations to bring attention to the business aspects of veterinary medicine. Studies have indicated the importance of business education in improving the income level attained by veterinarians and the quality of service they provide.

Veterinary School Student Business Aptitude Awards

SEF awards $3,000 to one veterinary student from each participating school in the nation through its Business Aptitude Award Program. From the total winners, one student receives $15,000 as our national winner. The national award winner will also receive a trip to either the North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando or the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas in order to receive the award.

SEF plans to award over $100,000 through the Business Aptitude Award Program.

Speaker Sponsorship

SEF promotes the education of veterinarians, vet students and staff by sponsoring speakers on practice management, sales and valuations.

State VMA CE Meeting sponsorship

SEF offers sponsorships to the State VMA for their state sponsored CE meetings. This money has also been used for student VBMA sponsorships.

Book Release

SEF sponsored the release of the book Your Veterinary Practice ~ Buying, Selling, Merging. Aimed at helping veterinarians with buying or selling a practice, the book was written and edited by veterinary practice experts at Simmons who have gathered and documented many issues facing veterinarians today.

Veterinary Leadership Experience

SEF is a sponsor of the VLE along with the AVMA. VLE is a workshop where students and faculty from the nation’s veterinary schools come to focus on aspects of better leadership.

VetPartners (formerly AVPMCA)

SEF has sponsored VetPartners since its inception. The mission of VetPartners is to promote excellence and ethics in veterinary consulting and advising through continuing education, communication, collaboration and collegiality, and to establish and improve business practices and standards.

VBMA (Veterinary Business Management Association)

SEF is one of the main sponsors of the VBMA. The VBMA is a student-driven organization dedicated to advancing the profession through increasing business knowledge, creating networking opportunities, and empowering students to achieve their personal and professional goals.

NCVEI

The partnership between the NCVEI and the SEF came about through a mutual interest and concern over the increasing level of student debt and the need for financial and debt management programs for both veterinary students and recent graduates.

AAHA

SEF has sponsored several projects of AAHA that related to the business of veterinary medicine.
