EDUCATION A PRIORITY
How We Make a Difference
The SEF is a non-profit corporation founded in 2002 by Simmons & Associates. It was created to educate practitioners and students about the business of veterinary medicine. Since it’s founding in 2002, the SEF has reached thousands of veterinarians through its newsletters and sponsorship of speaking engagements, CE meetings, and veterinary organizations such as VBMA, VLE, and others with similar goals.
Dedicated to the next generation veterinarian, the SEF’s flagship project reaches veterinary students through the Business Aptitude Award Program, providing in excess of $100,000 annually in student awards.
How We Make a Difference
SEF works in partnership with national and state veterinary organizations to bring attention to the business aspects of veterinary medicine. Studies have indicated the importance of business education in improving the income level attained by veterinarians and the quality of service they provide.
Veterinary School Student Business Aptitude Awards
SEF awards $3,000 to one veterinary student from each participating school in the nation through its Business Aptitude Award Program. From the total winners, one student receives $15,000 as our national winner. The national award winner will also receive a trip to the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) Conference in Orlando in order to receive the award.
SEF has sponsored VetPartners since its inception. The mission of VetPartners is to promote a community of collaboration, integrity and responsibility to advance veterinary consultants' and advisers' professional development to serve our members, clients and the profession.
VBMA (Veterinary Business Management Association)
SEF is one of the main sponsors of the VBMA. The VBMA is a student-driven organization dedicated to advancing the profession through increasing business knowledge, creating networking opportunities, and empowering students to achieve their personal and professional goals.
Veterinary Leadership Institute
SEF is a sponsor of the VLI along with the AVMA. VLI is a workshop where students and faculty from the nation’s veterinary schools come to focus on aspects of better leadership.
SEF has sponsored several projects of AAHA that related to the business of veterinary medicine.
SEF promotes the education of veterinarians, vet students and staff by sponsoring speakers on practice management, sales and valuations.
State VMA CE Meeting sponsorship
SEF offers sponsorships to the State VMA for their state sponsored CE meetings. This money has also been used for student VBMA sponsorships.
SEF sponsored the release of the book Your Veterinary Practice ~ Buying, Selling, Merging. Aimed at helping veterinarians with buying or selling a practice. The book was written and edited by veterinary practice experts at Simmons who have gathered and documented many issues facing veterinarians today.
